BSD is the curse of itself. BSD is a great operating system, however those that hold the keys are letting it die. I agree that BSD is a complete electronic ecosphere. I agree that it is secure. When it works, it works well.

I disagree that it is in reach of every person. Many users drift from Linux into BSD in hopes of finding something new. If I was uploading an OS to an old desktop PC, GhostBSD would be my choice. All of the other BSDs require special hardware, installation skills, or straight up luck, to get it installed. Changing a configuration file is a major barrier for new users. BSD is dying. Even hardcore BSD developers are drifting into Linux due to the slow proactive changes from within the BSD community.

I could not get MidnightBSD or the remaining BSDs installed in a virtual machine. I installed over 30 different Linux distros in the last 5 years, yet I successfully installed only 2 BSD variants in the last year. And I still had issues with those 2 variants post install, when getting my WiFi card to run.

I am interested where Project Trident and Hyperbole are going in the coming days. I hope these 2 projects will mature and stabilize for the daily user. In 6-12 months, I will do a basic review of these 2 projects. One running towards a BSD-like Linux code, and the other running into a BSD kernel.

The one thing that I loved about BSD is the ZFS file management system. ZFS is a quite stable file management system, over 12 years in the making. I will go back to my traditional Linux Loopback format and review ZFS and the OpenZFS project.

And yes, BSD did make me crazy.
