+As someone who grew up with logo, the turtle is very familiar, just a pity the ‘turtle’ is now a triangle. Do not let this put you off, you are shown straight away how to change it! Once Peter teaches you how to ‘drive’ your turtle, the exercises start – to make beautiful art with simple maths. The going feels slow in the first three chapters, but you have to realise you are learning multiple things at once and how they slot together. Chapter four, we enter algebra territory and solving equations graphically. Most exciting stuff. It just ramps up from there as we are taught to move the shapes we create. I do not know if I should use the word animation here, I do not want people to get the wrong idea or misrepresent the book, but if you stick to it, this is a most rewarding chapter. I also do not want to give anything away, but there are some cool designs waiting for you. Everything is put out in detail - not just code, but drawings too - and explained, and you are given practical advice at every turn. With “Processing 3” you get immediate results and it feels good to see what was just explained in action. -**This book is packed chock full of information from the very first page of the introduction. There are exercises for you on every other page. This is a sink or swim book; do not be fooled by the mild mannered cover. The climb is steep with numbers and strings, et-cetera, until chapter 5, where blocks are explained as: ”Block(s) are the thingys that group multiple statements into a single thingy.” This made me smile. Things ease off a bit, and we are led to believe this will go easier. The terms used are what made me read the chapter again, as I am not a programmer, things like phasers have a completely different meaning to me. The thing I respect most about this book is that is not brimming with acronyms. (A pet hate of mine.) Things are explained clearly and concisely. The odd factoids in-between, with little pictures / icons, break you out of your frown. Yes, frown you will... There are lots of examples, which is a plus. There is a whole chapter on errors - when things go wrong - that does a remarkable job explaining those cryptic error messages Perl loves. Something I have never used in Perl is modules, or to be precise, other people’s modules. Chapter 10 will show you how to go about acquiring these modules for your own use. +Puisque j’ai grandi avec le logo, je connais bien la tortue ; c’est juste dommage que la « tortue » soit maintenant un triangle. Ne vous découragez pas, car on vous montre tout de suite comme le changer ! Une fois que Peter vous aura montré comment « piloter » votre tortue, les exercices démarreront : comment créer de la beauté artistique avec des maths simples.
-Ce livre est bourré d'un tas d'informations dès la première page de l'introduction. Il y a des exercices à votre intention toutes les deux pages. Avec ce livre, on nage ou on coule : ne vous laissez pas tromper par la douce couverture. La pente est raide avec les chaînes de caractères et les nombres,etc, jusqu'au chapitre 5, où les blocs sont expliqués ainsi : « Les blocs sont des bidules qui regroupent des déclarations multiples dans un seul bidule. » Ça m' a fait sourire. Les choses sont un peu rapetissées et nous sommes enclins à croire que ce sera plus facile. Les termes utilisés ont fait que j'ai relu tout le chapitre ; comme je ne suis pas programmeur, des choses comme « phaser » ont un sens complètement différent pour moi.  Ce que je respecte le plus dans ce livre, c'est qu'il ne déborde pas d'acronymes. (une des mes haines favorites). Les choses ont expliquées clairement et concisément. Les anecdotes curieuses insérées, avec des petites images ou icônes, rompent votre concentration. Oui, vous fronçiez les soucils ... Il y a beaucoup d'exemples, ce qui est un plus. Un chapitre entier traite des erreurs - quand ça fonctionne pas bien - où un travail remarquable est fait pour expliquer ces messages d'erreur cryptés que Perl affectionne. Je n'ai jamais utilisé les modules de Perl, ou, pour être précis, les modules d'autres personnes. Le chapitre 10 vous montrera comment comment acquérir ces modules pour votre propre usage.  Les téléchargements du livre sont réellement conservés sur GitHub ; aussi, les liens dans le livre ne sont pas utilisés. +Au cours des trois premiers chapitres, on a une impression de lenteur, mais vous devez réaliser que vous apprenez de multiples choses en même temps et comment elles s'imbriquent. Dans le chapitre quatre, nous entrons dans le territoire de l'algèbre et la solution graphique des équations. C’est vraiment passionnant. Et ça ne fait que commencer : nous apprenons à déplacer les formes que nous créons. Je ne sais pas si le mot animation est approprié ici, car je ne veux pas que les gens arrivent à la mauvaise conclusion ou dénaturent le livre, mais si vous persistez, ce chapitre est des plus gratifiants. Je ne veux rien dévoiler non plus, mais des dessins très sympas vous attendent. Tout est présenté en détail - pas seulement le code, mais les dessins aussi - et expliqué, avec des conseils pratiques à la moindre occasion. Vous avez des résultats tout de suite avec « Processing 3 » et vous êtes heureux de voir en action ce qui vient d’être expliqué. J’ai récemment regardé une vidéo 3Blue1Brown sur les ondes sonores et maintenant je reconnais les maths derrière ces vidéos populaires.

At the end of chapter 21, there are almost another 100 pages covering the answers to the various exercises. (Yes that’s how many exercises there are!).

I did not do any of the exercises as I am planning on reading it again, this time doing the exercises – I wanted to get a feel for what I was letting myself in for.**
+Every chapter is just another step up from the previous one and before you realise it, you have reached the Mandelbrot function in chapter 7, mentioned in the introduction. Beautiful fractals await those with patience. Trust me, you will be problem-solving in no time! There are 12 Chapters to look forward to. There is no shortage of information in this book, and at no point are you left frowning at anything. I wish Peter was my teacher at school! La lecture de « Perl6, keeping the easy, hard and impossible in reach » (Perl 6, mettre à votre portée le facile, le dur et l'impossible) est comme se faire de l'équilibre sur une corde. Il y a tant d'informations dedans, mais sans jamais atteindre la surcharge. À la fin du chapitre 21, il y a presque 100 pages supplémentaires donnant les réponses aux différents exercices. (oui, il y a autant d'exercices que ça !)

+Ce livre est l’un de ceux qui méritent de figurer sur votre étagère, avec quelques marque-pages. Le livre mérite amplement toutes les louanges pour ses explications magnifiques et le ton léger utilisé pour transmettre des informations assez sérieuses.
