I dial finance and say quick as a flash: “Hi, this is Mike from IT, whatever you do, DON’T log off!”. Trying to sound panicky. “Why?” is the reply. “I think we just stuffed up, please tell the others not to log off, turn off their computers, or close their laptop lids”. I hear him complying - why not, call ID shows ‘internal call’. “OK I say, let’s see if we can restore access”. “Please spell your username precisely as it is, so I can create you again.” He does. “OK. I say, the last password you used, please, you can change it once we are done.” I get the password. OK, please put me through to the next person so I can restore them too. Process repeats for all four members of Finance, including the Finance manager. (I am wondering if I should repeat this stunt with marketing, but I think it should be enough). I turn to the interviewer. I have four username / password combinations. I smile. They do not. I did not get a reply from these people, not even a “you were not successful”, oh well... This is the same when Windows users come to Linux. Why can’t I be admin? Why can’t I install this program that hasn’t been updated since 2004? Linux has a different mindset when it comes to security. BUT! Do not rely on this. Be aware of what you install. Go look at the Github page now-and-then, see when last someone updated the software. It takes only one ‘low tech’ attack sometimes to defeat ‘high tech’.

J’ai composé ce numéro-là et dit très rapidement, en essayant de communiquer ma panique: « OK, c’est Mike de l’informatique, quoi qu’il arrive, NE raccrochez surtout PAS ! » Ils ont demandé « Pourquoi ? » « Je pense que nous venons de faire une gravissime erreur. Veuillez dire aux autres de ne pas se déconnecter, arrêter leurs ordinateurs ou fermer le couvercle de leur portable. » Je l’entends transmettre mes ordres – pourquoi pas, l’appel est identifié comme étant interne. J’ai continué : « OK, voyons voir si je peux restaurer l’accès. Veuillez épeler votre nom d’utilisateur très précisément, afin que je puisse vous recréer. » Il l’a fait. « OK, j’ai dit, donnez-moi le dernier mot de passe que vous avez utilisé, s’il vous plaît. Vous pourrez le changer quand nous aurons fini. » J’ai eu son mot de passe. « Ok, passez-moi votre voisin afin que je puisse le restaurer aussi. » J’ai répété le processus auprès des quatre membres du service financier, y compris le responsable. (Je me suis demandé si je devais répéter le tout au service marketing, mais je pensais que c’était suffisant.) J’ai regardé la personne qui me faisait passer l’entretien. J’ai quatre noms d’utilisateurs avec leur mot de passe. J’ai souri. Eux, pas. Je n’ai pas eu de réponse de ces gens-là, même pas un « vous n’avez pas réussi à nous convaincre ». Tant pis. La même chose se passe quand des utilisateurs de Windows essaient Linux. Pourquoi je ne peux pas être admin ? Pourquoi je ne peux pas installer ce programme qui n’a pas été mis à jour depuis 2004 ? Linux a une autre mentalité quand il s’agit de la sécurité. MAIS ! Il ne faut pas vous fier à cela. Soyez conscient de ce que vous installez. Allez voir la page GitHub de temps en temps pour voir la dernière fois que quelqu’un a mis le logiciel à jour. Parfois, il ne faut qu’une attaque « de bas niveau » pour vaincre une technologie de pointe.

 A: When an item is moved to trash, like other operating systems, you can recover it from there. Delete is delete. +R : La raison pour laquelle vous trouvez des informations contradictoires, c'est qu’il y a différentes « saveurs » - environnements de bureau – d’Ubuntu et certains vous permettent de le faire, alors que d’autres, non. Je n’utilise pas la version Gnome3 depuis quelque temps, mais je soupçonne que c’est la version que vous utilisez. L’équipe de Gnome a ses propres idées sur comment il faudrait travailler, mais vous devriez savoir qu’il n’est pas le seul environnement de bureau qui existe. Vous pourriez essayer Kubuntu, qui devrait vous paraître plus familier (car il ressemble un peu à Windows), où vous pourriez faire des recherches sur les saveurs d’Ubuntu et en trouver une qui semble vous plaire.

Ma machine est sous Ubuntu 20.04 avec un processeur Intel mobile également d’occasion, dont le port Ethernet était cassé avant que je l’aie eu. Nécessité fait loi ; je l’ai donc utilisé et elle m’a rendu de grands services. L’adaptateur WiFi fonctionnait tout simplement et c’était génial ; mais je voulais l’utiliser comme point d’accès au Net. C’est là que j’ai rencontré des problèmes. J’ai suivi tous les tutoriels que j’ai trouvés, mais je n’y arrive pas. Je ne suis peut-être pas assez geek, mais je pense que c’est la faute du port cassé.

Certains des très peu chers clones chinois ne le font pas. Si ce mode est pris en charge, cela pourrait être un problème de pilote, soit côté WiFi, soit côté Ethernet. Ouvrez un terminal et saisissez :

 Q: This is going to sound weird, but I keep getting an error “Timeout poll on interrupt endpoint” with SUSE and UBUNTU on my Raspberry PI 3B. I have searched and there is something like that on the BSD side of things.  A: Yes, it is POSSIBLE (I am assuming you mean Gnome as vanilla), but I would not recommend, as it will pull in a boat load of KDE dependencies. Though these days the slowdowns are minimal, it is still there. Have you checked to see if you can find a flatpak / Snap / Appimage?

I am having endless issues with the touchscreen part of it. Now I am pulling my hair out in frustration. Should I just sell this off again rather?
