 Display servers draw the application windows on your computer screen. The X Window System has been around for 40 years and has been on version 11 since 1987. It is old technology and due to limitations is on its way to end-of-life on Linux. The replacement systems are new display servers based on the Wayland protocol.  The download is a fairly hefty 5.9 GB, almost as large as mainstream Ubuntu these days. It was also a slow download, but eventually I got it.

+J’ai téléchargé le fichier ISO d’Ubuntu Lomiri 24.04 via HTTPS puisque aucun BitTorrent n’est disponible. Il n’y a ni une somme de vérification du téléchargement ni d'exigences minimum du système annoncées.
+Le téléchargement est assez conséquent à 5,9 Go, presque aussi lourd que l’Ubuntu principale actuelle. Le téléchargement était également lent, mais je l’ai finalement reçu.

+Cette liste d’applications est très sommaire. Il lui manque à la fois un éditeur de texte et un gestionnaire de paquets à interface graphique, parmi d’autres choses que vous vous attendriez à trouver dans une vraie distribution pour ordinateur de bureau. L’émulateur de terminal Zutty a crashé à chaque fois qu’il a été ouvert, mais l’autre terminal fourni a très bien fonctionné, heureusement.

 Is Ubuntu Lomiri 24.04 a great desktop distribution? No, not right now, but it is not intended to be. Strictly as a test to see if Ubuntu Unity can be run using Lomiri on Wayland, it can only be considered a success. Saraswat concludes, "while Unity7 isn’t going away anytime soon, Lomiri would act as a suitable replacement if there ever arose a need."

+Conclusions
+Ubuntu Lomiri 24.04 est-elle une distribution géniale pour ordinateur de bureau ? Non, pas pour le moment, mais elle n’a pas l’intention de l’être actuellement. En tant que test pour voir si Ubuntu Unity peut s’exécuter avec Lomiri sur Wayland, c’est une réussite. Saraswat conclut : « Alors qu'Unity 7 ne va pas disparaître dans un futur proche, Lomiri agirait comme remplacement convenable si jamais la nécessité s’en faisait sentir. »
+Un jour ou l’autre, Ubuntu Unity devra abandonner X11. Il se peut que Lomiri soit « l’atout maître » qui rende cela réel, surtout si Unity X ne convient pas aux utilisateurs. Soyez à l’affut des actualités sur ce sujet dans l’avenir !
