+Qu'est-ce que c'est ? Nous avons déjà parlé de Starc, mais au cas où vous l'auriez manqué, Starc est une aide à l'écriture. Elle fournit des outils pour simplifier votre travail d'écrivain. Comme vous pouvez le constater par sa description, l'application est principalement destinée à l'écriture de scénarios et remplace KIT Scenartist. Cependant, elle offre d'autres options et vous n'avez besoin d'aucune connaissance en scénarisation pour l'utiliser.

 When you launch Starc, you are greeted with a pleasingly simple interface, that is straight to business. There is only one hamburger menu, in one frame. It does not load up in pure white, (praise the pope!) recognizing that most writers ply their craft in the wee hours of the day. That said, there are different themes available if you’d like, and you can even create your own. The menu is simple with three options, create story, open story and the user guide. This is in line with the direction the developers have chosen: “Starc is being developed with strong author’s involvement and support so we won’t waste the app performance on features you don’t need”.

+Fonctionnement
+Lorsque vous lancez Starc, vous découvrez une interface agréablement simple, directement axée sur l'utilisation. Le menu principal se résume à un seul cadre. Il ne s'affiche pas en blanc pur (louanges au pape !), sachant que la plupart des rédacteurs exercent leur art au petit matin. Ceci dit, différents thèmes sont disponibles si vous le souhaitez, et vous pouvez même créer le vôtre. Le menu est simple et propose trois options : créer une histoire, ouvrir une histoire et consulter le guide d'utilisation. Cela correspond à la direction choisie par les développeurs : « Starc est développé avec une forte implication et un soutien des auteurs ; nous ne gaspillerons donc pas les performances de l'application avec des fonctionnalités inutiles.»
+Si la direction est claire, la façon de modifier les éléments importants, comme la police, l'est moins. Seules deux options sont proposées : pour le module de base, Courier et Roboto, deux polices intéressantes pour les développeurs, mais pas pour les rédacteurs, et deux autres dans d'autres modules, dont Arial et New Times Roman.

+L'application est donc accessible aux personnes en situation de handicap et aux personnes dyslexiques, qui peuvent ainsi utiliser des polices de grande taille et lisibles. Cela peut sembler anodin aujourd'hui, mais on vieillira tous un jour… La plupart des écrivains que je connais préfèrent des polices claires, sans g, ou a et ou autres signes qui s'entremêlent, car elles fatiguent les yeux, surtout avec une application comme Starc où l'utilisateur passe la journée à fixer l'écran. Je pense que les polices sont négligées par de nombreux développeurs, même lorsqu'ils sont eux-mêmes très pointilleux sur les polices qu'ils utilisent. Je ne sais pas si c'est une bonne ou une mauvaise chose de ne pas pouvoir changer de police à la volée, car pour écrire, il faut un environnement sans distractions ; il faut donc s'organiser en conséquence.

 Another great feature for writers is the ability to split the screen into two, with F2. This way you can keep track of something that came before, to keep the continuity, allowing you to edit in both splits, should you need to balance your story. If I were to need a prompt, I’d open up ChatGPT in my browser and simply clear my cookies every time I want to use it, (or else you need to sign in) only getting the bare minimum from that information hoover. Luckily for us, this is not integrated into the free version, which is a plus. Since I do not have an income at the moment, I could not try out the paid version, so if any of our readers wants to try and report back, it would be great.

+Parlons maintenant du sujet tabou : l'IA Starc. Je reconnais que l'IA peut être d'une aide précieuse pour l'écriture et dans le recherche d'idées géniales, mais je ne fait pas confiance dans les technophiles pour ne pas voler votre histoire ou votre idée. (Nous avons tous comme ça s'est bien passé pour les artistes numériques.) Du coup, l'intégrer à votre application est une vraie folie. Si j'avais besoin d'une invite, j'ouvrirais ChatGPT dans mon navigateur et j'effacerais simplement mes cookies à chaque fois que je veux l'utiliser (sinon, il faudrait s'identifier), ne récupérant que le strict minimum de ce collecteur d'informations. Heureusement pour nous, ce n'est pas intégré à la version gratuite, ce qui est un plus. N'ayant pas de revenus pour le moment, je n'ai pas pu tester la version payante. Si l'un de nos lecteurs souhaite nous faire part de son avis, ce serait formidable.

 For me, it is the little things that set this application apart from other writers on Linux, for instance, it would automatically correct my double capitals, from something like “LInux” to Linux, for when I hold down the shift key for a fraction too long, sort of like LibreOffice Writer does, and I appreciate that as it saves me from correcting obvious mistakes. Once this application achieves predictive text, it should blow any other writing application on Linux out of the water.

+Pour moi, ce sont les petits détails qui distinguent cette application des autres applications d'écriture sous Linux. Par exemple, elle corrige automatiquement mes doubles majuscules, passant de « LInux » à Linux, lorsque je maintiens la touche Maj enfoncée un peu trop longtemps, un peu comme le fait LibreOffice Writer ; et j'apprécie cela, car cela m'évite de corriger des erreurs évidentes. Une fois que cette application sera dotée de la saisie prédictive, elle devrait surpasser toutes les autres applications d'écriture sous Linux.

 For me, digital is the way to go and I’m always looking for an application that is a good fit. After losing all my stories since 1984 in a move, recently – (if anyone reading this ever receives a box that is not theirs, filled with red notebooks, let me know!) I can back up my stuff to SD card, to the cloud, to hard drive and DVD ROM, if it is in digital format. Thus I’ll be keeping an eye on Starc as it develops and following them on Telegram as it is a promising application.

+Pour accéder aux autres, il faut ensuite emprunter la voie panoramique : « Non configuré » et créer. Dans la fenêtre suivante, en bas, vous trouverez « + Ajouter un document ».
+Pour moi, le numérique est la voie à suivre et je suis toujours à la recherche d'une application qui me convienne. Après avoir récemment perdu toutes mes histoires depuis 1984 lors d'un déménagement (si quelqu'un qui lit ceci reçoit un jour un carton qui ne lui appartient pas, remplie de carnets rouges, faites-le moi savoir !), je peux sauvegarder mes données sur carte SD, dans le cloud, sur disque dur et sur DVD-ROM, si elles sont au format numérique. Je vais donc suivre Starc de près pendant son développement et les suivre sur Telegram, car c'est une application prometteuse.
