+Du coup, j’ai confondu « Old Skies » et « Shardlight », sans doute parce que le style graphique et la palette de couleurs sont les mêmes. Sharlight date de 2016 et Old Skies de 2025, et ils sont visuellement identiques. Que dire de plus ? À part que je vous propose ma partie de Sharlight au lieu de celle d'Old Skies.

 Yep, you guessed it, GOG installer :) The game installed quickly and I could see that the audio was the largest part of the game. Though the game is older, it installed on Ubuntu Gnome 24.04.

 The first thing you notice is that there is no mouse acceleration. I headed into the options, but there are only options related to sound.

+Eh oui, vous l'avez deviné, l'installateur GOG ! :) Le jeu s'est installé rapidement et j'ai constaté que l'audio constituait la partie la plus importante. Bien que le jeu soit ancien, il s'est installé sans problème sur Ubuntu Gnome 24.04.

+J'ai rencontré des difficultés au lancement du jeu : un message d'erreur indiquait que Adventure Game Studio 64 (je crois !) ne répondait pas. Après plusieurs tentatives pour le fermer, j'ai cliqué plusieurs fois sur « Attendre », et miracle, le jeu a démarré. Un menu s'affiche.
+Première observation : l'accélération de la souris est désactivée. J'ai exploré les options, mais elles ne concernent que le son.

A nod to black lung, I think, which was Tuberculosis, if I remember correctly, but I suppose black lung was taken and more black on an already grim storyline, may have been over the top. Yep, you heard me, “grim”. If you are into noire stories and dark plot twists, this game may scratch an itch.

+Je ne vais pas vous mentir, j'ai une relation d'amour-haine avec les jeux Wadjeteye. Il y a toujours des versions Linux, donc je ne peux pas être trop sévère, mais l'absence de réglages d'accélération de la souris est un gros oubli. Taper et glisser sur mon pavé tactile pour me déplacer de 30 % sur l'écran, c'est impensable.

Si vous aimez les histoires noires et les intrigues obscures, ce jeu pourrait bien vous plaire.

It’s not Old Skies, I’ll see if I can lay my hands on a copy in the next month or so, unless someone wants to make a donation, misc@fullcirclemagazine.org, however, I feel that Old Skies may be in the same vein as this in the graphics department, as Wadjeteye is an Indie studio. As beautiful as the settings are, I feel that the characters could have gotten a bit more love, in some places. The lightning, on the other hand, was really nice for a pixel art game, helping with the immersion.

To give you some idea, I haven’t frowned this much in a very long time, listening to game music.

Je ne dévoilerai rien de l'histoire à ceux qui veulent en avoir pour leur argent, mais sachez qu'il existe aussi d'autres « factions ».

-I always give Steam reviews a look to see what people complain about, you know, valid things or nonsense reasons, but this time I gave Metacritic the benefit of the doubt. “Generally Favorable Based on 26 Critic Reviews 75.” I’m sorry, I don’t see that and I’ll tell you why: The story starts out great with tension and suspense, but loses it towards the end. The backdrops and world building and the storyline are just not in the same tier. A solid 60% sure, but 75%, not really. The puzzles were not difficult and everything felt like it was ambling along, there were no hooks or twists and turns. The trackpad control was terrible.

+En matière de décors pixel art, Wadjeteye excelle. Bien que ce jeu ait presque dix ans (je ne sais pas exactement quand l'édition spéciale est sortie), il reste très agréable à regarder. Ce n'est pas Old Skies, et je vais essayer de me procurer un exemplaire d'ici un mois ou deux, à moins que quelqu'un ne souhaite faire un don (misc@fullcirclemagazine.org). Cependant, j'ai l'impression qu'Old Skies est dans la même veine graphique, étant donné que Wadjeteye est un studio indépendant. Malgré la beauté des décors, je trouve que les personnages auraient pu être un peu plus travaillés, par endroits. En revanche, l'éclairage est vraiment réussi pour un jeu pixel art et contribue grandement à l'immersion.

+Bien que la musique fonctionne en jeu et contribue à l'immersion, la bande originale de l'édition spéciale ne devrait jamais figurer dans une playlist, jamais ! Elle ne peut pas être écoutée seule. (Je préfère largement ajouter la musique de Caves of Qud à ma playlist.) La musique est conçue pour certaines scènes et s'y intègre plutôt bien, mais hors contexte, elle devient insupportable. Ce sont des sons d'ambiance étiquetés « musique » à tort et à travers, qui n'ont rien à faire dans un dossier de bande originale. Pour vous donner une idée, cela faisait longtemps que je n'avais pas autant froncé les sourcils en écoutant de la musique de jeu vidéo.

+Oui, j'ai choisi de séparer la section son car je tiens à souligner le talent des comédiens de doublage. Leur travail est vraiment excellent et complète à merveille des personnages déjà bien développés. En fait, bien que votre édition spéciale pèse environ 1,4 Go, le script du jeu ne fait qu'environ 600 Mo, dont environ 70 % sont consacrés au son. Cela s'explique peut-être par les commentaires audio, qui étaient pour moi le seul point fort de cette « édition spéciale ».

+Je jette toujours un œil aux avis Steam pour voir ce qui dérange, vous savez, les points positifs ou négatifs, mais cette fois-ci, j'ai voulu faire confiance à Metacritic. « Généralement favorable, basé sur 26 avis critiques, 75 ». Franchement, je ne suis pas d'accord, et voici pourquoi : l'histoire commence bien, avec du suspense et de la tension, mais s'essouffle vers la fin. Les décors, l'univers et l'intrigue ne sont tout simplement pas à la hauteur. Un bon 60 %, d'accord, mais 75 %, bof. Les énigmes étaient faciles et l'histoire traînait en longueur, sans aucun rebondissement. La jouabilité au pavé tactile était catastrophique.

 The special edition is not worth it. The OST is a cacophony of sound and the voice-over videos are mildly entertaining, once. The wallpapers leave much to be desired – no, scrap that, they are crap, there, I said it - and the character concepts I would not use for an avatar. That leaves the five propaganda posters that are sort of interesting in a Fallout way, but nothing to write home about. My advice is: Buy the base game, then use your savings to get some chocolate to munch on while playing the game, you will thank me later!

+L'édition spéciale ne vaut pas le coup. La bande originale est une véritable cacophonie et les vidéos de doublage sont vaguement divertissantes, une fois de plus. Les fonds d'écran laissent à désirer – non, en fait, ils sont nuls, voilà, c'est dit – et les concepts des personnages sont tellement mauvais que je ne les utiliserais même pas comme avatar. Il reste les cinq affiches de propagande, un peu intéressantes dans le style Fallout, mais rien d'exceptionnel. Mon conseil : achetez le jeu de base, puis utilisez vos économies pour vous offrir du chocolat à grignoter en jouant. Vous me remercierez plus tard !
+Pour répondre à @Bigfoot : – J'ai dû me tourner vers GOG pour mes jeux, car Steam affirme clairement qu'on ne possède pas les jeux qu'on a achetés. Je ne peux donc plus, en toute conscience, y dépenser mon argent. GOG me fournit un fichier d'installation que je peux conserver et installer sur autant d'ordinateurs que je veux, et il est toujours sans DRM.
