Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1970460/Garden_Galaxy/ Price: £8

Blurb from Steam: “In Garden Galaxy, you build and arrange your own personalised garden from randomised item drops, pulled from an enormous selection of different items and decorations.

No two gardens are the same! When at the mercy of chance, every garden you create will be unique and evolve with every new item from the pot.

Stack the odds in your favor with special items to increase the chances of getting the items you want or even stop them from appearing!”

DISCLAIMER: usually I never buy Windows-only games. I much prefer to buy a Linux version. I’m making an exception for this as it’s nice and relaxing, pretty cheap, and with a demo you can try before buying.

On loading the game, you’re presented with a very colorful and cheery screen. Here, you start your ‘garden’. It’s basically several blank squares with a pot on one square. There’s a little black cone guy bouncing around. You click them to get a mystery coin.

Deposit said coin into the aforementioned pot and you’re given an item to place in your garden. You can rotate the map and zoom in/out to get a better look at your almighty creation.

You can either place the item somewhere in your garden or dump it back into the pot. If you’re lucky you’ll get a ‘bank’ item where you can save up coins or a cardboard box where you can stash your garden items for later.

You also get squares of land you can place to add to your garden. You can either expand outwards, or stack them to go higher. Some squares are steps or slopes.

There are many different categories of coins and items, so it’s kinda like a lucky dip.

That’s it. That’s all there is to the game. Just chill and build your ideal garden.

Conclusions

I love the cutesy art style and the fact that there’s no timer or levels to complete. No bosses, no baddies. Just coins and placing items.

Obviously, I have to deduct a star for having no official Linux version. It only runs in Linux thanks to the wizardry of Steam, and it runs wonderfully on my machine with no 3D graphics card.
