Globalement, il s'agit d'une distribution plutôt jeune qui pourra grandir et dont le potentiel est énorme - il n'y a pas de limites. La raison pour laquelle je dis qu'Emmabuntus m'a impressionné, mais aussi m'a déçu, est que je l'ai testé sur un PC vieillissant pour voir si leurs affirmations sont exactes, et c'est alors que j'ai rencontré un problème. Je vous en donnerai les détails plus tard, car, d'abord, il faut que je vous explique la façon dont j'ai essayé cet OS.

 Emmabuntus can be run from a Live CD/DVD if you so desire - which makes it an ideal way to test it. However, if you want to install it on your computer, then the process is fairly easy. The Emmabuntus installation is based on Debian installation. If you come from the Ubuntu world then the installation will feel a bit different but overall the process is fairly simple. I had a couple of problems during installation on the older computer, but it ran very smoothly on the newer one. On the new computer, I successfully installed the system in less than 25 minutes, while on the older one I had to try 3 times until I finally had a good running system, in under an hour. Detecting my hardware was a breeze in my newer PC, and good-to-fair with the older PC.

 Ease of use
-Here is where my testing with the older computer ends as I ran into a rather crucial problem and I didn’t feel like it was worth it that I continue the testing on the older computer. The problem was with the Wi-Fi - I couldn’t get it to connect no matter what I tried. I don’t think it was a problem with the hardware because I actually used 3 different Wireless cards at 3 different times and all of them showed similar results. The Wi-Fi cards were able to find my network, but then, after I would type in the password, they could never connect. After trying three different Wireless cards, I gave up and stopped the testing with that computer. With the newer computer, I never ran into that problem. On the contrary, everything from here on with the newer computer ran very smoothly and left me very impressed. My regular everyday use was extremely pleasant on my newer PC. Even the occasional system-wide updates were quick and easy. Side by side snapping of windows comes enabled by default. One thing that I didn’t realize I’d missed, because I hadn’t enjoyed it after it was taken out of Ubuntu, is the Screen-saver that comes standard with Emmabuntus. It was a nice nostalgic touch. You see, newer monitors no longer have a need for a screen saver; the newer monitors don’t need “saving” from a blank screen or from the same unchanging screen, that’s why they’ve been removed from most modern distros.

+Si vous le souhaitez, vous pouvez exécuter Emmabuntus à partir d'un Live CD/DVD ; c'est, en fait, la façon idéale pour la tester. Cependant, si vous voulez l'installer, le processus est assez facile. L'installation d'Emmabuntus est basée sur l'installation de Debian. Si vous venez du monde d'Ubuntu, l'installation vous semblera un peu différente, mais, globalement, le processus est assez simple. J'ai rencontré quelques problèmes pendant l'installation sur l'ordinateur âgé, mais cela s'est passé sans accrocs sur la machine récente. Sur celle-ci, j'ai installé le système avec succès en moins de 25 minutes, alors que, sur l'ordinateur vieillissant, il m'a fallu trois essais, et moins d'une heure, avant d'arriver à un système qui fonctionnait bien. Le matériel du PC récent fut détecté sans aucun problème, mais la détection du matériel sur le PC âgé recevrait une note d'assez bien à passable.

Le problème concernait le WiFi : quoi que j'essaie, il ne voulais pas se connecter. Je ne pense pas qu'il s'agissait d'un problème de matériel parce qu'en fait, j'ai utilisé trois cartes WiFi différentes à trois moments différents et les trois résultats furent similaires. Les cartes WiFi trouvaient le réseau, mais, après la saisie du mot de passe par mes soins, elles ne pouvaient jamais se connecter. Après avoir essayé trois cartes WiFi différentes, j'ai laissé tomber et j'ai arrêté les tests avec cet ordinateur-là. Je n'ai jamais rencontré le même problème avec l'ordinateur plus récent. Au contraire, dorénavant, tout y fonctionnait sans le moindre heurt et j'ai été très favorablement impressionné. L'utilisation régulière quotidienne de ce PC plus récent était très agréable. Même les mises à jour occasionnelles du système étaient rapides et faciles. Le placement des fenêtres côte à côte en un tournemain est activé par défaut. Je ne me rendais pas compte que l'économiseur d'écran me manquait, car, une fois enlevé d'Ubuntu, il était tout simplement absent, mais un économiseur d'écran est standard avec Emmabuntus. C'était vraiment génial - que de souvenirs. En fait, les moniteurs récents n'ont plus besoin d'un économiseur d'écran, parce qu'ils n'ont pas besoin d'être « économisés » lors d'un écran noir ou quand un écran est statique. C'est pourquoi l'économiseur d'écran ne fait plus partie de la quasi totalité des distrib. modernes.

 This distribution comes pre-loaded with lots of software that I’ve used throughout the years but also with lots of software that I’d never used before. The version that I tested came with the Xfce desktop environment and was really easy to use. There is a pull-down menu from the top left, but it also comes with a dock-down at the bottom which can make the transition for a Mac OS X user very pleasant. Its default file manager is Thunar 1.6.11. It comes with most of the standard software that you would expect from most Ubuntu derivatives, but then there are a few more little bits of cool software sprinkled throughout. For example, it comes with Firefox AND Chromium for web browser choices. Then, for all of your bit-torrent needs, you can choose between Transmission & qBittorrent. There are 17 apps under the “Graphics” category, which includes stuff like digiKam, Fotoxx, E-Book Viewer, GIMP, Inkscape, Pinta and more. There’s a multi-media category with 25+ apps, some of which include Audacity, Clementine, tuxguitar and VLC just to name a few. There’s an education category with 11 apps, Development, Office, System, Accessories and WINE categories, and a few others that I haven’t mentioned.

-All in all, I would definitely recommend this operating system if you have a not-too-new computer, but it left me a little disappointed with a 15 year old computer. Because restoration of older machines is one of their claims, I need to deduct a whole star in my review of Emmabuntus. Other than this very crucial deal that I encountered connecting to the internet with an older PC, I really liked every other aspect of Emmabuntus and can see myself using it as my default go-to computer.

L'environnement de bureau de la version que j'ai testée était Xfce et c'était vraiment facile d'usage. Il y a un menu déroulant en haut à gauche, mais, en bas, il y a un dock aussi, ce qui peut rendre la transition pour un utilisateur de Mac OS X très agréable. Le gestionnaire de fichiers par défaut est Thunar 1.6.11. La plupart des logiciels standard auxquels vous pourriez vous attendre dans un dérivé d'Ubuntu sont présents, mais il y a en plus des petits logiciels géniaux éparpillés un peu partout. Par exemple, la distrib. est livrée avec  Firefox ET Chromium pour vous permettre de choisir votre navigateur Web. Puis, pour vos besoins de bit-torrent, vous avez le choix entre Transmission et qBittorrent. +J'étais agréablement surpris d'y trouver quelques applis qui sont absentes de la plupart des logiciels par défaut. Des applis comme VLC, Sound Juicer, KeePass X, USB-Image Writer & MultiSystem avec une interface graphique (pour l'installation facile de multiples systèmes d'exploitation sur une seule clé USB), Adobe Flash, et ce n'en est qu'un petit échantillon. La sélection de logiciels dès l'installation m'a très favorablement impressionné. Si toutefois vous avez besoin d'une autre appli, vous avez de la chance, car l'OS comprend le gestionnaire de paquets Synaptic et Gdebi et vous pouvez même installer des jeux en vous servant de Play-On-Linux, qui est installé par défaut - vraiment super. J'ai pu installer quelques applis en plus et le processus était facile, indolore et rapide.

+Conclusion
+Tout compte fait, je recommanderais certainement ce système d'exploitation si votre ordinateur n'est pas trop récent, mais mes essais avec la machine de 15 ans, m'ont déçu. Puisque la restauration des machines âgées est un de leurs objectifs annoncés, j'ai dû déduire une étoile entière de la note finale de cette critique. Outre le problème crucial rencontré quand j'essayais de me connecter au Net avec le PC vieillissant, toutes les autres caractéristiques d'Emmabuntus m'ont bien plu et je peux envisager son utilisation sur mon ordinateur par défaut.
