 I also instantly noticed that having a browser window open the full width (as tiling window managers do when only one window is open) was overwhelmingly huge. Thankfully, opening a second window, and adjusting the split a tiny bit, makes for a very comfortable size.

+D'entrée de jeu, quelques observations
+Il n'était pas beaucoup plus petit que mon double écran (les deux écrans étaient en-dessous des 23"), mais du fait qu'il n'y avait qu'un affichage, l'angle de vue était plus confortable. J'avais précédemment monté les deux écrans sur des bras verticaux reliés à mon bureau, mais ceci avait entraîné un angle prononcé entre mes deux écrans, où j'essayais d'éviter un écart trop grand dû à l'espacement et aux attaches.
+Le nouveau moniteur offrait aussi un support ajustable, signifiant que je pouvais me passer des bras et avoir juste à monter/descendre et pencher le grand écran dans une position confortable.
+J'ai aussi tout de suite remarqué qu'avoir un navigateur ouvert en plein écran (ce que font les gestionnaires de fenêtres en tuilage quand une seule fenêtre est ouverte) était vraiment trop énorme. Heureusement, l'ouverture d'une deuxième fenêtre, et avec un petit ajustement du découpage, donnait une taille très confortable.
+Luminosité : je n'ai jamais touché aux réglages de luminosité de mes deux vieux écrans (réglés à 100) et ce nouvel écran brillait comme un petit soleil quand je regardais n'importe quoi sur un fond blanc. Le réglage de la luminosité à 50 % a beaucoup aidé.

 The reason I needed a shell script and not an alias was that I could not string the polybar main_bar & into the disown command when using an alias. That meant closing the terminal also closed polybar. And since polybar dumps some messages into the terminal, it resulted in some odd looks. Disown essentially disconnects the background commands from a terminal. The file is called splitScreen, and running it as splitScreen On enables the settings for when I’m dividing the screen, and splitScreen Off changes it back.

I’d much prefer to eventually get a 4K HDR television (cheaper) for my console alone. As for 4K for work - I don’t have a lot of situations where I’ve really wished I had more screen real estate, and wasn’t going to spend nearly 2x as much on a monitor that didn’t fulfill a palpable need at my end. Tied into this was also a severe lack of showrooms in my area that actually carried IPS panels, or modern monitors. Most options are geared towards either gamers (poor sRGB coverage, and absolutely no Adobe RGB coverage), or budget-friendly monitors (high refresh time, 1080p resolution, bad color accuracy). If I had been able to actually see and try out a 4K monitor, it may have changed my mind. But you can’t miss what you don’t know, correct?

Du fait particulièrement que je possède une PS4 Pro, j'aurais pu souhaiter prendre un moniteur HDR 4k, qui est extrêmement cher. Personnellement, je trouve que les écrans en Allemagne sont beaucoup plus chers que dans d'autres pays (comme le Canada). Au final, je préférerais prendre une télévision HDR 4k (moins chère) pour ma seule console. Quand au 4k pour le travail, je n'ai pas beaucoup de situations où j'aurais souhaité disposer de plus de surface d'écran, et je n'allais pas dépenser presque deux fois plus sans réel besoin pour moi. Lié à cela, s'ajoutait un sévère manque de surfaces d'exposition dans mon quartier qui présentent vraiment des panneaux ISP et des écrans modernes. La plupart des propositions sont dirigées vers les joueurs (couverture sRGB faiblarde et absolument aucune couverture Adobe RGB) et les écrans bon marché (temps de rafraîchissement élevé, résolution de 1080p et mauvaise précision des couleurs). Si j'avais vraiment pu voir et essayer un écran 4k, ça aurait pu modifier ma façon de penser. Mais  ce que vous ne connaissez pas ne peut pas vous manquer, n'est-ce-pas ?

+Le principal facteur était toujours le coût. Je voulais remplacer mes écrans, mais je ne voulais pas dépenser plus de 400 € si je pouvais l'éviter.  More unforeseen was that I ended up replacing my desk entirely. It was previously a free hand-me-down desk that was quite curved. The problem with the curve was that the relatively wide foot on the new monitor wasn’t playing nicely with some of my cable restrictions (the ethernet cable I run through the room to get internet, for example). Since I was generally not too thrilled with the usable space on the old desk, I went to Ikea and bought a new one. The upside here is that I can now make much more efficient use of the space I have, and have nearly doubled my open working area between my main desk (with monitor, PS4, PC, etc) and my second desk (which I use for charging my laptop and as a workbench when doing PC repairs or working on guitars).
-Could I have made do without the new desk? Certainly. Am I happy about it? Absolutely - I wasn’t even aware at times how cramped I felt sitting in the curve of that desk. Not to mention the ability to cable-manage much better on the new desk due to the shape and form of the frame.

+J'ai dû acheter un câble mini-DisplayPort vers DisplayPort, principalement parce que je voulais me débarrasser de l'adaptateur bon marché que j'utilisais avant.
+Ce que je n'avais pas prévu, c'est que j'ai fini par remplacer mon bureau. Avant, c'était un bureau gratuit de seconde main qui était assez arrondi. Le problème avec le manque de rectitude était que le pied plutôt large du nouvel écran n'allait pas bien avec certaines restrictions de mes câbles (le câble Ethernet qui traversait la pièce pour que j'aie Internet, par exemple). Comme je n'étais pas ravi de la place inutilisée sur mon vieux bureau, je suis allé chez Ikea et j'en ai acheté un nouveau. Le bon côté de ceci est que je peux mieux disposer de la place libre que j'ai et que j'ai pratiquement doublé ma zone de travail disponible entre mon bureau principal (avec écran PS4, PC, etc.) et mon second bureau (que j'utilise pour charger mon ordinateur portable et comme établi quand je répare un PC ou travaille sur mes guitares).

 I often play music from digitized sheet music or tablature - I found that by fullscreening my PDF viewer, I can fit 3 pages of music on screen at once. Which means a lot less pausing to advance through pages using my keyboard.

+Je joue souvent de la musique à partir de partitions digitalisées ou tablatures ; j'ai trouvé qu'en mettant mon viewer PDF en plein écran, je peux mettre 3 pages de musique d'un coup sur l'écran. Ce qui signifie beaucoup moins de pauses pour faire avancer les pages avec mon clavier.
+J'utilise aussi plus souvent que par le passé le découpage vertical des fenêtres, ce qui veut dire que je peux lire une vidéo sur un quart d'écran, ouvrir un navigateur Web sur 50% de l'écran et utiliser le quart restant pour avoir un éditeur de code ouvert pour ajuster du HTML ou du CSS pendant que je fais des tests.

 I absolutely love my new setup - I have had to get reacquainted with some keyboard shortcuts in i3 to more easily manage my windows (as I previously did only 50/50 splits, or moved windows between monitors). But after doing that (and learning I can fullscreen a video to the container size by fullscreening the video using the player’s control, and then hitting mod+F), I have been able to better utilize the space than ever before.

I also find the width of this monitor (I estimate it’s maybe 10-15cm narrower than my dual monitor setup, including bezels) to be much more comfortable to look at. +J'aime beaucoup ma nouvelle configuration ; j'ai dû réapprendre quelques raccourcis clavier dans le i3 pour mieux gérer mes fenêtres (car avant je ne faisais que des découpes à 50/50, ou des déplacements de fenêtres d'un écran à l'autre). Mais après l'avoir fait (et appris que je pouvais passer une vidéo dans la taille écran du conteneur en demandant le plein écran de la vidéo par les paramètres du lecteur, et ensuite en tapant mod+F), je suis capable d'utiliser l'espace mieux que jamais auparavant.
+La meilleure couverture sRGB est aussi un gain de temps lors de tests de sites Web, le plus vieux des moniteurs que j'avais avalait les petits détails comme les ombres et les lignes. Je trouve aussi que la largeur de ce moniteur (j'estime qu'il est de 10 à 15 cm plus étroit que mon ensemble de deux écrans, y compris les fixations) est beaucoup plus confortable à regarder. Je n'ai plus à bouger volontairement ma tête ou à la tenir dans un angle bizarre pour voir clairement ce que je regarde.
