 April 2017, the UBports Community took full responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system. This has led to huge growth of the community. In order to fulfill the growing needs of the community, and support the ambition of sustaining healthy development of Ubuntu Touch and its ecosystem, a formal and legal entity, with proper leadership, would be necessary. And so, efforts to create a Foundation began. As we stand today, approximately one year later, we’re still moving ahead, and are already on the final steps of the long legal/bureaucratic process for the setup of the UBports Foundation. All the paperwork has been submitted, and we patiently await the decision of the authorities.

+En avril 2017, la UBports Community a accepté la responsabilité pleine et entière du développement et de la maintenance du système d'exploitation mobile Ubuntu Touch. En conséquence, la communauté a énormément grandi. Afin de répondre aux besoins croissants de la communauté et de soutenir leur ambition de continuer le développement sain d'Ubuntu Touch et de son écosystème, une entité juridique officielle, sous des dirigeants convenables, serait nécessaire. Ainsi, le travail de création d'une fondation démarra. Étant donné notre position actuelle, environ une année plus tard, nous continuons à avancer et sommes déjà arrivés aux étapes finales du long processus légal/bureaucratique de la création de l'UBports Foundation. Nous avons soumis toute la documentation demandée et nous attendons patiemment la décision des autorités.

 Joint Forces

Marius presented his plans to a bigger audience and managed to persuade a sponsor to make financial resources available with the aim of establishing a Foundation. Il s'est obligé alors à commencer à porter l'OS sur un « dispositif secret ». Au cours de cette période, il y a eu un premier contact avec des sponsors intéressés. UBports est né peu de temps après.

 Operating as the UBports Community

When requested, an experienced partner (LibreOffice) helped us out.

+Peu de temps après, Canonical lâcha une nouvelle étonnante. En avril 2017, ils annoncèrent qu'ils ne développeraient plus ni Ubuntu Touch ni Unity 8 - son « shell téléphone et convergence ». Unity 8 était au centre des efforts de Canonical pour avoir une seule interface utilisateur sur tous les dispositifs. À cette époque, un petit groupe de contributeurs a commencé à explorer la possibilité de redémarrer le développement d'Ubuntu sur des dispositifs mobiles. UBports a fait ses premiers pas en préparant la création d'une « branche » d'Ubuntu Touch. Comme vous le savez tous maintenant, la marque Ubuntu Touch est née et, à ce jour, elle s'appelle toujours Ubuntu Touch.

 Meanwhile the community behind Ubuntu Touch grew fast. New sponsors committed themselves to the project and UBports transformed into a well structured group with a current member count of well over 1600 people.

+Jan Sprinz et Ewald Pierre ont assumé la tâche de préparation des documents nécessaires et de la structure de la fondation. Pour le faire correctement, une première visite fut rendue à un comptable le 28 juin 2017. De leur côté, des avocats se sont occupés des documents légaux, y compris une définition de l'utilisation correcte de la marque (le logo, le nom, les signes distinctifs, etc...) et l'officialisation des documents de la fondation. Sur demande, un partenaire expérimenté (LibreOffice) nous a aidés.
+Entre temps, la croissance de la communauté derrière Ubuntu Touch s'est beaucoup accélérée. De nouveaux sponsors se sont impliqués dans le projet et UBports est devenu un groupe bien structuré avec actuellement bien plus de 1 600 membres.
