 Avec la mise à jour Focal Fossa, Ubuntu Budgie brille véritablement cette année. L'installation est facile et rapide. Tout semble avoir été perfectionné.

The layout is different, Solus OS currently favouring a Windows XP look, with the main bar at the bottom and Ubuntu has theirs at the top. Yes, I know you can change it, but this is one of the ways Ubuntu differentiates itself. The raven sidebar is smooth as ever, and by default it is minus the power strip at the bottom. That I am thankful for. Many times I have hit logout by mistake. Unlike Solus, Ubuntu budgie ships with plank, and again unlike Ubuntu MATE, there is no default anchor on my plank. They say the devil is in the details, but there are so many little nice touches here. They are not visible at the onset (like youtube-dl installed by default), but once you start using the system, you realise that it is not “just a clone”.

 What I mean by this is that, when I wanted to start adding my fonts, the font manager was already there. I did not have to install the font manager first. You will see, once you actually use it. Using budgie is not difficult either. It is intuitive and simple. Even my hillbilly family is quite comfortable with it. Anyone that has operated a computer before should be able to pick it up and work.**

La disposition est différente : actuellement, Solus OS  favorise une apparence à la Windows XP, avec la barre principale en bas ; en revanche, Ubuntu a placé sa barre en haut. Oui, je sais que vous pouvez la changer de place, mais Ubuntu se différencie, entre autres, comme cela. La barre du côté, raven, est toujours aussi fluide et, par défaut, elle n'a plus la barrette marche/arrêt en bas, ce qui me ravit. J'ai appuyé d'innombrables fois sur déconnexion par erreur. Contrairement à Solus, Ubuntu Budgie est livré avec plank et, contrairement à Ubuntu MATE, il n'y a pas d'ancre par défaut sur mon plank. On dit que le diable est dans les détails, mais il y a tant de petites touches sympas ici. Elles ne sont pas visibles du premier coup d'œil (par exemple, youtube-dl est installé par défaut), mais une fois que vous commencez à utiliser le système, vous vous rendez compte qu'il n'est pas qu'un clone.

The add-ons are well curated and enhance your experience. If you are too lazy to “rice”, then the maintainers have even included a bunch of quick custom settings for your desktop. There is ‘quick’ in a lot of things, like the menu, it has a button to allow you to switch between the all-in-one layout and a more structured approach, right there in the menu.

The desktop is light enough to save this laptop from the garbage heap, and powerful enough for me to play games on. Yes, no fibs! I will attach a screenshot. I did have one gripe though; for some reason, the picture viewer defaulted to “drawing”. It was easy to fix , so I cannot complain.

I can recommend this to anyone who is not happy with Gmome3 default of the main Ubuntu distribution. Though a lot of work has gone into the Gnome3 version, and it does not feel laggy any more, do not think Ubuntu budgie is a second class citizen. What are you waiting for, head on over to ubuntubudgie.org and grab yourself a copy while it is hot!

+J'ai presque envie de dire qu'Ubuntu Budgie est le meilleur des deux mondes, mais ce n'est pas vrai. Il contient quelque chose venant de presque toutes les autres « saveurs » : les icônes nettes et claires de KDE dans le gestionnaire de fichiers, le changeur de disposition venant d'Ubuntu MATE, etc., etc. Ce qu'il n'a pas, c'est une multitude d'extensions comme le bureau Gnome par défaut, où la moitié ne fonctionnent pas. Les extensions sont bien choisies et améliorent votre expérience. Si vous êtes trop paresseux pour choisir les vôtres, les mainteneurs ont même inclus un tas de rapides paramètres personnalisés pour votre bureau. La « rapidité » se trouve dans beaucoup de choses, comme le menu qui comporte un bouton vous permettant de basculer entre une disposition tout-en-un et une approche plus structurée - oui, sous la main dans le menu.

Oui, je ne mens pas ! J'attacherai une capture d'écran. J'ai cependant un seul grief : pour une raison qui me dépasse, le visionneur d'images est réglé par défaut sur « dessin ». Le corriger était facile et je ne peux donc pas me plaindre.

+Créer Ubuntu Budgie était une idée géniale et je félicite l'équipe pour son succès. Je peux le recommander à tous ceux qui n'aiment pas le bureau Gnome3 par défaut de la distribution principale d'Ubuntu. Bien qu'ils aient beaucoup travaillé sur la version de Gnome3 et qu'elle ne donne plus l'impression d'être lente, ne pensez pas qu'Ubuntu Budgie soit un citoyen de deuxième zone. Qu'attendez-vous ? Allez sur ubuntubudgie.org et récupérez un exemplaire pendant qu'il est encore chaud !
