Puisque je ne suis pas joueur et n’ai pas besoin de gagner de la place, j’ai choisi l’Ares, une machine tout-en-un. La seule chose que j’ai personnalisée dedans était la RAM que j’ai fait augmenter de 8 à 16 Go. J’ai gardé le SSD de 240 Go, car je pense gérer mon stockage autrement. J’ai néanmoins ajouté un clavier et une souris, mais je parlerai de cela plus tard.

+Un inconvénient que je veux souligner ici, c'est la façon qu’ils ont de toucher le paiement. J’ai payé avec ma carte bancaire normale. J’utilise cette même carte sur Amazon, eBay, etc., et tout le monde reçoit son argent immédiatement. Pour une raison incompréhensible, Entroware a besoin de 7 jours pour traiter un paiement. Il vous le dit sur leur page consacrée aux « Informations de commande », mais vraiment… il devrait vous le dire sur la page où vous êtes sur le point de cliquer pour payer. Je pensais que quelque chose n’allait pas quand mon ordre disait « traitement du paiement » pendant plusieurs jours. Mais pour une quelconque raison, PayPal est presque instantané. Très bizarre.

 The machine arrived via DPD in a big box. Plenty of padding. In the box was the Ares, and required cables. But, also a nice little sheet of Ubuntu stickers, an Entroware pen, and Entroware branded pad. Nice!

 As you’d expect for an all-in-one it has a base to allow it to stand on your desk, but I mounted mine on a wall bracket with an arm.
-On the left side of the screen is the on/off button. Right side has two USB ports. The on/off button does baffle me a bit. If you press it, you immediately get the option to shut the machine down. There doesn’t seem to be any way to keep it running but turn the screen off!

The remaining USB ports, HDMI, network port and power are at the bottom of the screen, but two inches up. So you have to tilt the screen WAY back to even hope of seeing the ports. So plugging things in at the bottom of the screen takes a fair bit of fumbling around.

+La machine est arrivée via DPD dans une grande boîte. Beaucoup de rembourrage. Dans la boîte, il y avait l’Ares et les câbles nécessaires. Mais également une petite feuille sympa d’autocollants Ubuntu, un stylo Entroware et un tapis de souris marqué Entroware. Sympa !
+Comme vous vous seriez attendu pour un tout-en-un, il a une base qui lui permettrait de reposer sur votre bureau, mais j’ai monté le mien sur un support mural avec un bras.

+Un inconvénient du matériel que je dois mentionner est l’emplacement des autres ports. Il y a deux ports USB sur un côté de l’écran, ce qui est bien pour en faciliter l’accès. Les ports USB restants, le HDMI, le port réseau et l’alimentation sont au dos de l'écran à cinq centimètres au-dessus du bas. Ainsi, il faut basculer l’écran considérablement pour espérer voir ces ports. À cause de cela, brancher des trucs au bas de l’écran nécessite pas mal de trifouillage.

+J’avais coché la clause pour qu’un clavier et une souris Logitech soient inclus, ce qui a ajouté 25 £ à ma commande. J’avais le souffle coupé quand j’ai vu qu’ils avaient inclus un clavier et une souris FILAIRE. Pourquoi pas inclure un clavier et une souris Bluetooth ou WiFi ? Après tout, j’ai quand même payé 25 £ ! Ils utilisent deux ports USB alors qu’ils auraient pu être en Bluetooth sans en utiliser aucun. Et à 25 £, c’était une fumisterie complète. J’aurais pu acheter un ensemble filaire sur Amazon pour moins de la moitié du prix.

Set your language, region, username and password, the usual stuff. I won’t bore you with screens of every step. If you’ve installed Ubuntu, then you’ve seen these screens before.

+Quand vous allumez la machine pour la première fois, le premier de plusieurs écrans de l’installeur Ubuntu s’affiche. Tout ce qu’il faut faire est facile et élémentaire. Régler la langue, la région, le nom d’utilisateur et le mot de passe, comme d’habitude. Je ne vais pas vous ennuyer avec une capture d’écran pour chaque étape. Si vous avez déjà installé Ubuntu, vous avez déjà vu tous ces écrans.
+Une fois sous Ubuntu, il faut faire un peu de paramétrage. D’abord, il faut connecter tous vos comptes en ligne. J’ai ajouté mon compte Google.
+Ensuite, vous devez configurer Livepatch, un truc que je n’avais jamais vu auparavant, pour être honnête. Je l’ai donc activé.

-SNAP TIP: one thing I noticed when installing software in Ubuntu these days is that it installs a lot of snaps. This gave me grief (not Entroware’s fault) when I tried to open files from external drives in things like GIMP. When you install something in the Ubuntu Software app, it finishes installing and the buttons at the top say ‘Open’ and ‘Permissions’, then make sure you click Permissions and set it how you like with regards to read/write external drives and with/without print access.
-For storage, what I’ve done is put all my files on a USB external 1TB hard drive and have another 1TB drive to hold backups. The only thing stored on the Ares is my Dropbox and Spideroak files. Dropbox doesn’t like being installed on the external drives (for some reason), and Spideroak plops its folder on the machine by default and trying to move it is more hassle than it’s worth. Of course, to clarify, none of that is Entroware’s fault.

+ASTUCE SNAP : aujourd’hui, une chose que j’ai remarquée en installant des logiciels dans Ubuntu, c'est que pas mal de snaps sont installés. Cela m’a causé des problèmes (ce n’est pas la faute d'Entroware), quand j’ai essayé d’ouvrir des fichiers venant de disques externes dans des logiciels comme GIMP. Quand vous installez quelque chose dans l’appli Ubuntu Software, il termine l’installation et les boutons en haut disent « Ouvrir » et « Permissions » ;  il faut alors cliquer sur Permissions et les régler comme vous voulez concernant la lecture/l’écriture de disques externes et avec/sans accès à l’impression.

Tout ce que je stocke sur l’Ares, ce sont mes fichiers Dropbox et Spideroak.  I’m very happy with the Entroware Ares. The screen is lovely and big and bright. It whizzes along and I reckon Ubuntu boots within about 12 seconds (give or take an Entroware screen where I’ve no idea what it’s doing). I’ve used the HDMI port on the Ares (shown right in the photo) for a second monitor (left in the photo) which works perfectly.

+Conclusion
+L’Entroware Ares me plaît beaucoup. L’écran est beau, grand et lumineux. La machine est extrêmement rapide et je pense qu'Ubuntu démarre en environ 12 secondes (à quelques secondes près, car il y a un écran Entroware dont la fonction me laisse perplexe). J’utilise le port HDMI de l’Ares (à droite sur la photo) pour un deuxième écran (à gauche sur la photo) qui fonctionne parfaitement.
+Ne vous trompez pas, j’aurais pu choisir une machine de bureau à 800 £ avec une bonne carte graphique qui aurait été tout à fait capable d’afficher des jeux modernes, mais je ne joue pas du tout ces temps-ci. L’Ares peut facilement gérer Minecraft et cela me suffit amplement.
