 A quick comment on fonts and font management in minimalist distros like Lubuntu: There is a wonderful font management program available in most repositories called FontyPython. This lovely little program excels at managing your installed fonts, displays a preview of selected fonts, and allows you to create “Pogs”: custom collections of fonts. And, as if that’s not enough, the “Monty Python” parallels are carried throughout the application; quite humorous.

 My Acer was equipped with wireless, but it wasn't working. I started investigating that and learned more about my system in that time than I had previously learned about PCs. Then the "Update" dialog popped up and I was notified that 7.10 was available. I downloaded all the updates and restarted. The system came back on, and I just happened to be staring at the indicator area when the wired icon went out and was replaced with a wireless icon!  I was hooked right there, and was a happy convert after that.

+En 2007, mon mari m'a acheté un ordinateur portable, voulant me faire la surprise. C'était un Acer Aspire qui tournait sous Vista. Je me suis bagarrée avec pendant environ six semaines, devenant de plus en plus frustrée de voir « Allow or Deny ? » à chaque étape ou presque.
+À cette époque, j'utilisais des ordinateurs depuis pas mal de temps, d'abord un Apple et Win3.1 au début des années 90, jusqu'à un iMac à la maison et Windows à l'université où je travaillais.
+J'avais été membre d'un forum en ligne où je suis devenue amie du responsable de l'informatique dans une société dans le Mid-West. Depuis un certain temps, il me parlait de Linux dans sa vie personnelle, mais aussi sur les ordinateurs de sa société. Tant ce qu'il disait m'intriguait, que j'ai commencé à penser que, moi aussi, je pourrais peut-être essayer Linux.
+Spécifiquement, un week-end en octobre, j'en ai eu assez. J'ai commencé à regarder des sites web divers pour avoir une idée du parfum de Linux le plus facile à utiliser pour les néophytes, celui qui avait le meilleur support en ce qui concerne les informations techniques et le meilleur soutien moral pour ceux sans expérience aucune. Tout m'aiguillait vers Ubuntu. J'ai téléchargé la 7.04 et j'ai abandonné Vista.
+Mon Acer avait le wifi, mais cela ne fonctionnait pas. J'ai commencé à faire des recherches à ce sujet et j'ai appris davantage sur mon système que j'avais appris auparavant sur les PC. Puis le dialogue des « Mises à jour » s'est affiché et j'ai appris que la 7.10 était disponible. J'ai téléchargé toutes les mises à jour, puis j'ai redémarré la machine. L'interface graphique est réapparue et, par hasard, je regardais fixement la zone de notification quand l'icône Ethernet s'est éteinte et fut remplacée par une icône sans-fil ! Je fus tout de suite conquise et, par la suite, j'ai été une convertie heureuse.
