If you’re as old as I am, you’ll know Little Computer People. That Commodore64 tape game (yes, I’m that old) where you took control of a little digital person's daily life. Well, if you liked LCP, then you’ll probably like Tiny Life.

Moving In

When you start a new game you can choose from an easy, medium or hard start. The hard start is where you pick some land, build a house, and create your little tinies (as they’re called). In medium, you pick a house, and create your tinies. In easy, you pick an existing house with residents and start playing.

Controls

One unusual thing here is that you can rotate the camera with the C key. While the game is entirely 2D, it’s a nice touch as you can also show/hide walls – which helps with the rotation of the house.

Top-right of the screen are the controls for building items, notifications, settings, showing/hiding walls, etc. Bottom-right is where you control the speed of the game. Bottom-left is the main panel showing the residents, their portrait, and some tabs. The tabs display all the usual Sims-style stuff like mood, hygiene, if they have a job, what their skills are, and so on.

You can click on their small portrait at the bottom-left to select a resident. You can then check their tabs and start clicking on things in the house, or on other people, to have them do things. The couple I started with had a female wanting to learn cookery skills and the guy wanting to build several items and use them. It’s important to keep an eye on their stats, and the time, as sometimes they’ll go to bed early then be up at 3am when they have work at 8am until 4pm. Then come home moaning that they’re tired. So, yeah, it’s like real life.

Outsiders

Quite often you’ll get other tinies turning up at your door. You can invite them in for a chat if you like. I had to end up tossing some out for using the computer, making lunch, and getting comfy at 10pm when we had work at 8am. The idea is that the more you ask them, the more you find out about them.

The map also has things like a park and gym available for keeping your tinies mentally and physically active.

Conclusions

I believe this is made by a one man team. If so, it’s impressive stuff. There’s plenty to do. Chatting with your neighbours, maybe having a couple try for a baby, sending them to work, making items to use/sell to get TinyBucks to buy things. You can remodel the house, you can move and rotate furniture. Maybe get moody with people and burn bridges. It’s a 2D Sims.

I have to drop it a point as the tutorial could be a bit better. It describes what to do, but I feel it would have been better to highlight what I should do.

If you like Sims (and the like), then it’s definitely worth a try.
