Yes, if you are designing and manufacturing dual-core smart-phones, Canonical wants it running a full-featured Ubuntu desktop. Canonical has announced the availability of Ubuntu for Android as a working prototype. Under the snappy tag-lines “…in every dual-core phone there's a PC trying to get out” and “Ubuntu is the killer app for multi-core phones in 2012,” Canonical makes the case for the docked corporate smart-phone to become the next desktop PC. When you connect the phone to an external monitor with keyboard and mouse, Ubuntu boots and runs concurrently with Android. Looking at the images and the technical specification, the 2GB disk image for Ubuntu looks like 12.04 with Unity, sitting atop a hardware compatibility layer on ARM processors.

Avec les petites phrases d'annonce accrocheuses « … dans tous les téléphones dual-core, il y a un PC qui essaie de sortir » et « Ubuntu est l'appli qui tue pour les téléphones multi-core en 2012 », Canonical donne à penser qu'un smartphone d'entreprise branché sur une station d'accueil sera le prochain PC de bureau.
Lorsque vous connectez le téléphone à un moniteur externe avec clavier et souris, Ubuntu démarre et s'exécute en même temps qu'Android. En regardant les images et les spécifications techniques, l'image disque de 2 Go pour Ubuntu ressemble à une 12.04 avec Unity, au-dessus d'une couche de compatibilité matérielle sur les processeurs ARM.
