The game developer studio, Obsidian Entertainment, has launched a kickstarter page for the next project simply called “Project Eternity”. Obsidian is responsible for such games as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2, and, more recently, Fallout New Vegas, and is also helping develop the Kickstarter funded game Wasteland that will have a Linux version. Obsidian is asking for 1.1 million dollars which they have already surpassed; if they are able to reach 2.2 million in the next 28 days, they will have a Linux version of the game. Personally, I am surprised it’s going to require more money for the Linux version of the game than for the MAC – the MAC requires only 1.6 million in funding. Perhaps Obsidian has nobody on staff familiar with developing games for Linux.

Next up… as we all know, Valve is coming to Linux. They have announced the ten games that will be released – which include Heroes and Generals, Dream, McPixel, Kenshi, Routine, Towns, The Black Mesa Project, Cry of Fear and Project Zomboid. This is just the beginning. Most of these games also come from Steam's newly launched Greenlight project. You can also vote for games that have Linux versions to appear on Steam via Greenlight.
