I turned it in at a retailer and they cleaned the laptop inside and out, and there was loads of dust dirt in the heat-sink as well as in the fans. They also applied new thermal paste on to the CPU, and now my laptops runs like when it was new. Temperatures dropped from around 80 degrees centigrade while idle, down to about 50 degrees. Q I installed a second hard drive into my computer for a specific project. It needed to be the first hard drive in the BIOS, then I could change the boot order to select which OS to boot. But my swap went away! A Use this command: gksudo gedit /etc/fstab Find the line for the swap file, and change it from sda2 to sdb2, or whatever the number is. Reboot and the swap should be back.

R (Merci à celui qui a posté la question.) J'ai adopté la suggestion de Thee et j'ai fait nettoyer l'ordinateur. Je l'ai remis à un détaillant et ils ont nettoyé le portable de fond en comble. Il y avait beaucoup de poussière dans le dissipateur de chaleur et aussi dans les ventilateurs. Ils ont également mis de la pâte thermique nouvelle sur le processeur et maintenant ma machine tourne comme quand elle était neuve. La température a baissé d'environ 80 degrés centigrade à environ 50 degrés, dans les périodes d'inactivité.
Q J'ai installé un deuxième disque dur dans mon ordinateur pour un projet spécifique. Il avait besoin d'être le premier disque dur dans le BIOS pour que je puisse changer l'ordre de démarrage et choisir quel système d'exploitation à démarrer. Mais le swap est disparu !

Tips and Techniques No Sound At least once a week I see some variation on “my computer produces no sound.” Sometimes the person includes lots of information about software settings, but hardly anyone gives a physical description: what should produce the sound, and how is it connected: earphones or speakers, plugged into the front or the back, or perhaps speakers in a monitor or TV connected by HDMI? And what program should produce sound? (VLC is notorious for muting sound for no good reason.) Have you run Speaker Test? Here are the procedures to run Speaker Test in two different environments: 1. Right-click on the speaker icon and make sure sound is not muted. Click on the speaker icon and select Sound Settings. Note what device is selected for sound output and what Connector is selected in the drop-down box. Click on the Hardware tab, note what Profile is selected, and Test Speakers is in the bottom-right corner. When clicked, it offers Test for Front Left and Front Right. I have seen the wrong Connector as the default; picking a different one fixed the problem. 2. Essentially the same procedure with different wording. Right-click on the speaker icon and select Sound Preferences. (Note that sound can be muted here.) The Hardware tab will show what device is selected, as well as having a Profile drop-down list and a Test Speakers button. There's also another Mute check-box.

Au moins une fois par semaine je vois une variation quelconque au sujet de « mon ordinateur ne produit pas de son ».
Parfois, la personne fournit beaucoup de renseignements sur la configuration de ses logiciels, mais pratiquement personne donne une description physique de son système : qu'est-ce qui devrait produire le son et comment est-il connecté : un casque ou des hauts parleurs, branché devant ou derrière, ou peut-être des haut parleurs dans l'écran ou une télé connectée par HDMI ? Et quel logiciel devrait produire le son ? (VLC est célèbre parce qu'il coupe le son sans raison.)
Avez-vous exécuté un Test des hauts parleurs ? Voici comment exécuter un Test des hauts parleurs dans deux environnements différents :
1. Faites un clic droit sur l'icône du haut parleur et assurez-vous que le son ne soit pas coupé. Cliquez sur l'icône et sélectionnez Paramètres du son. Notez le périphérique sélectionné pour la sortie son et le connecteur sélectionné dans le menu déroulant. Cliquez sur l'onglet Matériel et notez le profil choisi ; le bouton Tester les haut-parleurs est en bas à droite. Quand vous cliquez dessus, il propose de tester l'avant gauche et l'avant droit. J'ai vu le mauvais connecteur choisi par défaut ; en choisir un autre a résolu le problème.
2. Essentiellement le même processus en des termes différents. Faites un clic droit sur l'icône du haut-parleur et sélectionnez Préférences du son. (Notez que le son peut être mis en sourdine ici.) Sous l'onglet Matériel, vous trouverez le périphérique sélectionné ainsi qu'une liste déroulante de profils et un bouton pour tester les haut-parleurs. Ici se trouve aussi une autre case à cocher, Sourdine.

In my experience, at least 80% of the time “no sound” is due to it being muted (or the volume set near zero) in one of the three places: speaker icon, sound settings, or application. Also, some earphones have a volume control in the cable – so we have four “simple” answers. Many of the other problems can be solved with Alsamixer, and you will need to put a few minutes into learning to use it, for example at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alsamixer And if that doesn't work, it's time to hone your Google skills.
D'après mon expérience, au moins 80 % du temps, « pas de son » est dû au fait qu'il est coupé (mis en sourdine, ou que le volume est réglé près de zéro) dans un des trois emplacements : icône haut-parleur, paramètres/préférences du son, ou application. Puis, certains casques ont un contrôle du volume dans leur câble… Voici donc quatre réponses « simples ».
Pas mal des autres problèmes peuvent être résolus avec Alsamixer et vous aurez besoin d'investir quelques minutes dans l'apprentissage de son utilisation, notamment à http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alsamixer [Ndt : en anglais - apparemment l'équivalent n'existe pas en français.]
