What you need to know about the GnuTLS Linux bug A critical Linux bug that many are comparing to the “goto fail” problem that afflicted Apple last month was recently discovered, prompting Linux distribution and application developers to scramble to incorporate a new patch into their code. The bug, which affects the GnuTLS library for implementing the SSL, TLS and DTLS security protocols, could cause software to falsely indicate that a particular communications connection is secure, when in fact it is not. As with the Apple flaw, that opens the door to “man-in-the-middle” exploits where an attacker could secretly intercept and manipulate the user’s communication. Valve open-sources its DirectX to OpenGL translation software Valve has made Dota 2‘s Direct3D to OpenGL translation layer open source. This is the piece of code that allows Valve to take a standard DirectX Windows game that uses the Source engine (Dota 2, Team Fortress, Portal), and easily bring it over to Mac OS X or Linux/SteamOS. The code, with some tweaks, could also be made to work with other DirectX-based game engines. Une variante d'un ver Linux à l'état sauvage cible des routeurs, des décodeurs, et maintenant des PC afin de « creuser le filon » de la monnaie virtuelle.
Selon le cabinet de recherche de Symantec, un nouveau ver dans l'internet des objets (IdO) a été découvert en novembre dernier. Surnommé Linux.Darlloz, le ver cible les ordinateurs tournant sur des architectures Intel x86, ainsi que les appareils fonctionnant sur des architectures ARM, MIPS et PowerPC, tels que les routeurs et les décodeurs.
Préchargée avec des noms d'utilisateur et des mots de passe pour ouvrir une brèche dans de tels systèmes, une nouvelle variante a maintenant été trouvée; elle se met à jour en permanence et est en train de faire de l'argent par le processus de « minage » de monnaie virtuelle.

NVIDIA Remembers Linux Users with Old Video Cards and Updates the Legacy Drivers NVIDIA has just released an update for its Legacy display driver, 304.121, bringing support for the newer kernels and one important fix. There are lot of Linux users out there who use older video cards that can't make use of the recently released NVIDIA drivers, which don't have the proper support. That is why NVIDIA developers periodically release small updates for the Legacy branch of their drivers. The changelog for the new update says that the compatibility with recent Linux kernels has been improved, and that a bug that prevented the NVIDIA implementation of the Xinerama extension protocol requests from being used when RandR was enabled has been fixed. The products being supported by these drivers range from the old 6 series to the “new” 600, which was released back in 2012. NVIDIA vient de publier une mise à jour pour son pilote d'affichage historique (Legacy, 304.121), apportant une compatibilité avec les nouveaux noyaux et une correction importante.
Il y a beaucoup d'utilisateurs Linux qui utilisent des anciennes cartes vidéo qui ne peuvent pas utiliser des pilotes NVIDIA récemment publiés, qui n'ont pas le support voulu. C'est pourquoi les développeurs NVIDIA sortent périodiquement de petites mises à jour pour la branche historique de leurs pilotes.
La liste des modifications de la nouvelle mise à jour indique que la compatibilité avec les noyaux Linux récents a été améliorée et qu'un bug, qui empêchait la mise en œuvre par NVIDIA des requêtes étendues du protocole Xinerama d'être utilisées lors de l'activation de RandR, a été corrigé. Les produits étant pris en charge par ces pilotes vont de l'ancienne série 6 à la « nouvelle » 600, qui est sortie en 2012.

Google buys an Android gaming platform, possibly with a set-top box in mind Green Throttle Games was late to the Android gaming platform party, and paid the price for it – the company effectively wound down at the end of 2013. However, its efforts may not have been in vain. Google has confirmed to PandoDaily that it has acquired key parts of Green Throttle's business, including its parts, labor and two co-founders. The crew in Mountain View hasn't said what it will do with its new resources, but PandoDaily sources claim that Google wants to refine the Bluetooth controller for its long-fabled (and possibly gaming-focused) TV set-top box. Les fonds d'écran par défaut d'Ubuntu ont été la source de critiques de la communauté, la plupart des utilisateurs disant qu'ils sont tout simplement trop fade. Le nouveau, qui est en cours de développement en ce moment, s'écarte de la norme, même s'il continue à « dire » Ubuntu d'un coup d'oeil.
Les fonds d'écran Ubuntu précédents ont été critiqués pour être trop fade et pour ne pas évoluer beaucoup entre les versions. Canonical a choisi la cohérence et c'était généralement une bonne décision.
