I tried each of the {K,L,X,}ubuntu 14.04 distros, but, for some reason, something wasn't working in each. Linux Mint had just released 17 so I tried Cinnamon. Everything worked out of the box. I knew what I wanted my desktop to look like so I started trying to figure out how to change it and I found this theme on gnome-look.org: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Best-Of-Dark?content=164206 and http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Best-Of-Darkblue?content=164207 I needed both installed. It didn't want to change the window title bars in cinnamon, and I hadn't had a chance to try Mate yet, so out the door it went. I found the background picture by googling “Dark Wallpaper” in Google Images. It can be found here: http://wall.alphacoders.com/big.php?i=70225 Then I just installed them using the Appearance app in the Control Center. I did have to get a little sneaky, and use “sudo mv” to put the background image into the folder required by the theme manager. Cinnamon ne voulait pas changer la barre des titres dans les fenêtres et je n'avais pas encore eu l'occasion d'essayer Mate, alors bye-bye !

Ensuite il suffisait de les installer en utilisant l'appli « Appearance » dans le « Control Center ». J'ai dû devenir un peu Sioux et utiliser « sudo mv » pour pouvoir mettre l'image dans le dossier requis par le gestionnaire de thèmes. My desktop must be clean and restful as I spend many hours on the computer. I am running a basic dual-core computer with Gigabyte M/b and 4GB RAM. I run Linux 16 or LMDE from an SSD drive with 3 spare older drives for testing alternative Linux distributions. The monitor is Samsung 22” wide (1650 x 1050). I use Cinnamon desktop with MintX Theme. I change the wallpaper frequently; this one is “Morning Lake.” I use conky to provide comprehensive system data without intruding too much on the peaceful scene. Michael Davies
Puisque je passe beaucoup de temps devant mon ordinateur, il faut que mon bureau soit propre et reposant. Ma machine est assez basique : un double-cœur avec 1 Gigabyte M/b et 4 Go de RAM. J'exécute Linux 16 ou LMDE d'un disque SSD avec 3 vieux disques de rechange pour tester des distributions Linux alternatives. Le moniteur est un Samsung de 22“ de largeur (1650 x 1050). J'utilise le bureau Cinnamon avec le thème MintX. Je change le fond d'écran souvent ; celui-ci est « Morning Lake ». Conky me fournit des données complètes sur le système sans trop empiéter sur l'image reposante.
