Welcome to another issue of Full Circle. Almost a full house again this month. There's Python, LibreOffice, part three of the GRUB boot menu series with the last part coming next month. Inkscape is here, but no Blender this month I'm afraid. As well as Charles' regular Linux Labs I've added another Linux Labs article of my own on using BitTorrent Sync. BitTorrent always seems to get a bad rap due to it being used for illegal means, but this new Sync thing really works quite well for sharing files between computers and even mobile devices. If you're thinking of moving from DropBox, or the now defunct Ubuntu One, but want something that's not hosted then I'd recommend giving BitTorrent Sync a look. I believe there is a similar fully F/OSS alternative out there, but I haven't tried it as yet. The main focus though, this month, is a look at alternatives to TrueCrypt. It seems that TrueCrypt is (depending on who you listen to) either insecure, and/or not being developed further. This leaves a lot of encrypted drives either without support or possibly being insecure, so many will need to find something else. Iain Mackeand has tested several alternatives and shows you how each is used. Although, I have to say, not many look as friendly, and GUI based, as TrueCrypt is/was. All the best, and keep in touch! Un carton presque plein ce mois-ci. Il y a du Python, du LibreOffice, la troisième partie de la série sur le menu de démarrage GRUB et la dernière partie prévue pour le mois prochain. Il y a de l'Inkscape, mais j'ai bien peur qu'il n'y ait pas de Blender ce mois-ci.
A côté de l'article habituel de Charles sur le Labo Linux, j'ai ajouté un deuxième article de Labo de mon cru sur l'utilisation de BitTorrent Sync. BitTorrent semble toujours avoir mauvaise presse car il est utilisé dans des buts illégaux, mais cette nouvelle chose Sync semble assez bien fonctionner pour partager des fichiers entre ordinateurs et même avec des appareils portables. Si vous envisagez de déménager de Dropbox ou du défunt Ubuntu One, mais sans vouloir quelque chose d'hébergé ailleurs, alors je vous recommande de jeter un œil à BitTorrent Sync. Je crois qu'il y a une alternative purement FOSS sur la toile mais je ne l'ai pas encore essayée.
Mais le sujet principal de ce mois est une recherche d'alternatives à TrueCrypt. Il semble que TrueCrypt, selon qui vous écoutez, soit non sécurisé, soit en fin de maintenance. Cela laisse un tas de disques encryptés ou bien sans support, ou bien peut-être sans sécurité, donc beaucoup de gens vont avoir besoin de quelque chose d'autre. Iain Mackeand a testé plusieurs alternatives et vous montre comment les utiliser. Mais, je dois l'avouer, peu ont une interface aussi amicale que celle de TrueCrypt.
