 Once you get the game running, it’s a pretty cool game to play. So far, I’ve been able to play the game for many hours without any issues. The game plays pretty smoothly. To play Warcraft III, you need to use a mouse and keyboard – it was designed to be played on a PC.

The Battle Chest includes Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos CD, Warcraft III Expansion: The Frozen Throne CD, and two bonus strategy guides from Brady Games. I was able to install the game from these CDs.

Warcraft III comporte un éditeur de cartes qui donne au joueur la possibilité de créer des cartes et des jeux personnalisés. C'est en passant par Warcraft III et en utilisant l'éditeur de cartes, que Icefrog a pu développer et publier le premier Defense of the Ancients. Après quelque temps, Valve (la société derrière le moteur de jeu Steam) a engagé Icefrog et quelques autres développeurs de jeux et leur a confié le développement d'un nouveau jeu basé sur DotA. Le résultat final était DotA 2. Vous pouvez toujours jouer au premier DotA, mais pour ce faire, il faut avoir installé Warcraft III.

Warcraft III is the first game I’ve reviewed here at Full Circle Magazine that required me to install and run WINE, and I’m happy to report back that this endeavor was a true success. The game was able to play smoothly, without any lag or glitches. However, getting the map editor to run in Linux is another headache that I haven’t yet submitted myself to suffer, so I can’t quite comment on how to use it nor on how to run and play the original Defense of the Ancients, but if I ever do, you better bet I’ll let you know about it in an article here. Chances are that I won’t, but you never know.**

+Quant au jeu lui-même, il se joue extrêmement bien. Puisque ce jeu est sorti il y a pas mal de temps, vous pourriez vous attendre à ce qu'il fonctionne sans problème sur le matériel actuel, et c'est bien le cas. Cependant, étant donné que de nouvelles mises à jour du jeu paraissent régulièrement, son développement n'est pas encore terminé et, à cause de cela les gens chez WINE essaient toujours activement de faire fonctionner le jeu sous Linux sans heurts. Et ils font un excellent boulot.

+Si vous avez le goût de la nostalgie, ou si vous voulez jouer au jeu qui était le précurseur de votre jeu préféré aujourd'hui, quoi qu'il en soit, vous ne regretterez pas de vous être embêté avec l'installation d'un jeu non Linuxien. Warcraft III est le premier jeu dont j'ai fait la critique pour le magazine Full Circle pour lequel il me fallait installer et exécuter WINE et je suis heureux de pouvoir vous dire que c'était une vraie réussite. Le jeu se joue avec fluidité, sans petit souci ou problème majeur. Toutefois, faire fonctionner l'éditeur de cartes sous Linux est un autre casse-tête dont je n'ai pas encore voulu supporter les souffrances. Ainsi, je ne peux pas tout à fait faire des commentaires sur son utilisation ou sur comment lancer et jouer à Defense of the Ancients original, mais, si jamais je le fais, vous pouvez parier que je vous le raconterai dans un article ici-même. Je ne le ferai sans doute pas, mais on ne sait jamais !
