+Quelques jours plus tard, je parlais d'Ubuntu et mes copains du département de l'informatique, Pravin et Kalpesh, étaient ravis d'apprendre que quelqu'un d'autre dans la société connaissait Linux. Ils connaissaient Fedora et Red Hat Linux et voulaient essayer Linux en tant que système d'exploitation d'un serveur. Très rapidement, nous trois avons commencé à discuter du système d'exploitation Linux Server et les deux informaticiens en ont chacun essayé des versions sur deux PC de rechange qu'ils utilisaient comme serveurs. Après beaucoup de tests et d'essais, ils ont choisi d'installer Fedora comme système d'exploitation du serveur et de l'utiliser aussi comme routeur d'internet sur tout le réseau de la société.

+Nous devions remplacer des vieux logiciels tout en faisant en sorte que le réseau fonctionne sans heurts et que les opérations continuent normalement. Nous avons IP Messenger sur tous les PC et le système d'exploitation est Windows, ce qui explique pourquoi Gnome IP Messenger en fut le remplaçant sur le Serveur. Squid fut déployé pour contrôler le trafic sur le réseau. VNC fut installé aussi afin que, en cas de problèmes, ceux-ci puissent être résolus sans que l'utilisateur soit affecté (puisque le réseau est étendu sur trois niveaux différents dans deux immeubles séparés). La base de données des virus fut centralisée aussi et dorénavant toutes les mises à jour sont faites à partir du serveur central. Wine fut installé et sert maintenant à exécuter certains logiciels Windows qui n'ont pas encore leur équivalent convenable sous Linux. Il y avait quelques petits problèmes comme le blocage involontaire de certains sites par squid, l'affectation de domaine et même quelques gels, mais ils furent tous résolus grâce à la communauté qui est toujours là pour aider tout le monde.

+De cette manière, Linux a remplacé un plus vieux système d'exploitation sur le serveur de ma société et maintenant il fonctionne sans aucun problème. Et oui, puisque nous sommes une société d'infrastructure, nous avons des problèmes sur les divers sites, distants de 400 à 700 km, et nous les résolvons grâce à TeamViewer.
