+Cheri Francis : Je me suis impliquée il y a quelques années. J'ai fait quelques incursions dans l'utilisation d'Ubuntu et j'ai ensuite commencé à traîner sur IRC, en participant où je pouvais. Je suis actuellement impliquée dans le projet Femmes d'Ubuntu, dans l'équipe d'accessibilité et dans l'équipe NGO. Je suis également membre de l'équipe LoCo de l'Ohio et un nouveau membre du Conseil LoCo de l'Ohio.

 CF: I got an email from a friend on the UW project whom I'd worked with in the past. I asked a few others if they thought I should, and the response was overwhelmingly positive, so I went for it. I wanted to attend because I felt it would be a great opportunity to meet some of the people I'd been working with online, as well as learning more about the nuts and bolts of how everything fits together, and the processes behind everything.

 EK: What are some of the sessions you attended?
-CF: I tried to focus on community and accessibility where I could. Other than that, I tried to learn as much as possible about some of the topics that were a bit over my head, but still fascinating. Attending the session about the NGO team was interesting, as I'd had no idea that it existed previously, and I think it has the potential to do amazing work. The sessions about the IRC council and Ubuntu Weekly News were very eye-opening for me. Prior to one session, I didn't know about the LoCo ISO Testing initiative, nor the Laptop Testing project. I intend to learn more about both of those.

+EK : Qu'est-ce qui vous a motivée à poser votre candidature à un parrainage à l'UDS ?
+CF : J'ai reçu un courriel d'une amie sur le projet UW [Ndt : Ubuntu Women ou Femmes d'Ubuntu] avec qui j'avais travaillé dans le passé. J'ai demandé à quelques autres s'ils pensaient que je devais le faire et la réponse a été extrêmement positive ; c'est pour cela que je m'y suis lancée. Je voulais y assister parce que j'ai senti que ce serait une excellente occasion de rencontrer certaines des personnes avec qui je travaille en ligne, et aussi d'apprendre davantage sur les détails pratiques de comment tout se tient et les processus derrière tout ça.
+EK : Citez-nous quelques-une des sessions auxquelles vous avez assisté ?
+CF : J'ai essayé de mettre l'accent sur la communauté et l'accessibilité quand je pouvais. À part ça, j'ai essayé d'apprendre autant que possible sur certains des sujets qui me dépassaient un peu, mais qui me fascinent. Assister à la session sur l'équipe d'NGO a été intéressant, car je ne connaissais même pas son existence auparavant et je pense que ses membres pourront faire un travail incroyable. Les sessions sur le conseil IRC et sur les Actus hebdomadaires Ubuntu ont été très révélatrices pour moi. Avant une des sessions, je ne savais rien sur l'initiative « LoCo ISO Testing », ni sur le projet de test de portables. J'ai l'intention d'en apprendre davantage sur ces deux-là.

 CF: It was an awesome thing, in the literal sense. So many people that give their time and energy to creating and maintaining Ubuntu, both software and community. I left UDS with the desire to do what I can to help encourage new users and contributors. By helping our LoCo be more visible and inviting, and helping to raise the visibility of my teams.

 EK: Do you have any tips for first-time attendees?
-CF: Ask a TON of questions before you go. Read every email multiple times to make sure you don't miss instructions. Know that the schedule is constantly changing. Don't be afraid to speak up, but try to keep it on topic.

+EK : Quelles sont vos plus grands souvenirs du sommet ?
+CF : C'est une chose impressionnante, au sens littéral. Tant de gens qui donnent leur temps et leur énergie pour créer et maintenir Ubuntu, à la fois les logiciels et la communauté. J'ai quitté l'UDS avec le désir de faire ce que je peux pour aider à encourager de nouveaux utilisateurs et contributeurs. En aidant notre LoCo à être plus visible et accueillant et en aidant à accroître la visibilité de mes équipes.
+EK : Avez-vous des conseils pour une première participation ?
+CF : Posez une tonne de questions avant de vous y rendre. Lisez tous les courriels plusieurs fois pour vous assurer de ne rater aucune instruction. Sachez que le calendrier est en constante évolution. N'ayez pas peur de prendre la parole, mais essayez de rester dans le sujet.
