Nous avions besoin de cela pour sa capacité à faire la saisie de travaux à distance sur l'ordinateur central IBM. J'ai tout simplement adoré la simplicité superficielle d'Unix, mais aussi beaucoup aimé la bête puissante (peut-être une grue ?) se lovant sous la surface.

 I played with various distributions over the years as they came out. I used Red Hat, Caldera, Corel, etc. I eventually settled on SuSE, and was using Linux full-time, delving into Windows when I needed to for something with a client company.
-In 2002, I decided to jump to an Apple iBook (no flames please). I liked it, but still wasn't giving up on Linux. When Ubuntu came around, I looked into and followed it. Linux support for Apple hardware at the time was not very good. It wasn't until 10.04 that I was able to install it on a spare drive on my MacBook with almost no issues. My MacBook was starting to develop an overheating problem, which was minor when running OS X but was worse under Linux. It was enough to see that I could use it for my day-to-day needs.

+À l'époque, les différents gestionnaires de fenêtres étaient très sommaires. Je me suis fixé sur FVWM (F Virtual Window Manager). Il fonctionnait bien, mais il fallait modifier un fichier de configuration pour y ajouter des applications.
+J'ai joué avec différentes distributions au fil des ans dès qu'elles sortaient. J'ai utilisé Red Hat, Caldera, Corel, etc. J'ai finalement choisi SuSE et utilisais Linux à plein temps, ne me plongeant dans Windows que lorsque j'avais besoin de quelque chose pour une entreprise cliente.

Il a fallu attendre la 10.04 pour que je puisse l'installer sur un disque de secours sur mon MacBook sans presque aucun problème. Mon MacBook commençait à développer un problème de surchauffe, mineur, lors de l'exécution d'OS X, mais pire sous Linux. Il me suffisait de savoir que je pouvais l'utiliser pour mes besoins courants.

Mon idée est d'essayer de créer une petite entreprise d'installation et de support d'Ubuntu pour les gens ordinaires qui sont dégoûtés par les virus et les logiciels espions, ou qui ont du matériel décent, mais ne peuvent pas toujours exécuter les toutes dernières versions de Windows. Ce n'est pas un objectif facile, mais je pense qu'il vaut la peine d'essayer. À cette fin, j'ai pu obtenir un nouvel ordinateur Acer, j'y fais tourner Quetzal Quantal et j'en suis très heureux.
