 D'après moi, il n'y a aucun problème qui ne puisse être résolu avec Ubuntu. Mon portable était très peu cher :

 Ayant essayé Unity et Gnome 3 en mode live et n'aimant ni l'un ni l'autre beaucoup, j'ai décidé d'examiner d'autres possibilités.
-La photo montre XFCE 4.8 qui tourne sur Linux Mint 11. J'ai bougé le « panneau du bas » sur le côté gauche (d'habitude il est configuré pour se cacher automatiquement) et j'ai mis le « panneau du haut » en bas, comme fait Mint. Le Menu d'XFCE se trouve déjà où Mint Gnome le mettrait.

 La fenêtre du gestionnaire de fichiers Thunar montre que j'ai accès à mes fichiers Windows 7. Les paramètres du bureau sont disponibles comme sur l'image. Je peux lire des vidéos. Dans le fond, vous voyez le lecteur d'e-book Kindle d'Amazon, qui tourne sous Wine.

C'est Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) qui tourne sur mon portable, processeur i3, 4 Go de RAM et une carte graphique ATI Radeon avec 1 Go de mémoire dédiée. J'aime un bureau sobre et simple, sans icônes. La seule chose que je n'aime pas, c'est le panneau Gnome, que j'ai donc supprimé ; à la place, j'ai installé le gestionnaire de fenêtres AWN. Quant au calendrier et à l'horloge, ce sont des screenlets.

 I am going to add a sound card in the future but don’t know which one. I was looking at an ASUS card but someone wrote it has issues with live recording - if you need to record a guitar, and keep it in sync with another track, you’re out of luck.

Une des photos comprend une carte son, mais elle ne fait pas l'affaire puisque c'est du vieux PCI et non pas du PCI-E.

Je pensais à une carte ASUS, mais quelqu'un a écrit qu'elle a des problèmes avec des enregistrements en live ; si vous avez besoin d'enregistrer une guitare en la gardant synchronisée avec une autre piste, il n'y a rien à faire.

 I am also purchasing a custom-built Unicomp Spacesaver model M keyboard, with buckling spring switches and control key with no caps lock -- and also with custom colors to hopefully match my distro. It’s PS/2, and will, most likely, have n-key rollover which means any amount of keys pressed simultaneously will activate. USB supports only 6-key rollover max. Many cheap keyboards have 2 key. Originally, I bought it with the Das Keyboard Pro, with cherry mx blue switches, but the enter key failed after just a week. I got an RMA (Return Materials Authorization), and returned it for good.

+Je vais acheter aussi un clavier personnalisé Unicomp Spacesaver model M, avec des switches « buckling spring » [Ndt : le mécanisme sous les touches] et une touche CTRL sans verrouillage des majuscules, et aussi avec des couleurs personnalisées qui iront bien avec la distrib., du moins je l'espère. C'est un PS/2 et il aura, sans doute, une frappe coulée à « n » touches, ce qui veut dire que toutes les touches sur lesquelles vous appuyez simultanément s'activeront. USB prend en charge une frappe coulée de 6 touches seulement, maxi. Pas mal de claviers bon marché ont une frappe coulée à 2 touches. Au départ, je l'ai acheté chez Das Keyboard Pro, avec des switches cherry mx blue, mais la touche Entrée est tombée en panne après juste une semaine. J'ai obtenu une autorisation de retour du matériel et je l'ai retourné pour de bon.
